Monitoring Techniques

The Navy’s goal is to improve marine mammal monitoring capabilities by exploring technologies such as passive acoustics, radar and other combinations of sensors and platforms that provide improved detection, and classification and localization (DCL) of marine mammals. Research also focuses on developing signal-processing algorithms for detection and the classification and localization of marine mammals for the expanded data streams provided by new sensors and their increasing application to environmental monitoring.
